3rd Grade Homework Due February 4th/5th

Complete the WordMasters Challenge Choice Assignment

Choose approximately 10 words from your Meet 2 list that are least familiar/most challenging to you. Remember that some words have multiple meanings and parts of speech. Do an activity that will help you learn those words. Some suggestions include:

* Make flash cards with the words on one side and the definitions on the other.
* Write a story with the words. Put the words in sentences that have context clues about their meanings.
* Draw a picture to represent each word’s meaning.
* Create a crossword puzzle for a friend to solve. Use the definitions as clues.
* Any other activity you can think of that would help you learn more about your words.

3rd Grade - Chasing Vermeer

Next week we will begin reading the art mystery novel Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett. I was able to get a set of the books from the library, but the students are welcome to bring their own copy to read and use for our activities and assignments. Thanks!

Vanderkooi's Nut-Free Classoom

As we are welcoming a new group of students to Target, I wanted to let you know that we have a nut-free classroom. There are children in our Target program with severe nut allergies that can be life-threatening from accidental exposure. Please make sure that the snacks you send for your children on their Target days do not contain any forms of nuts. Thank you!

WordMasters Challenge Meet #2 - February 18th & 19th

Our WordMasters Challenge Meet #2 is scheduled for February 18th & 19th. For parents who would like to get more information about the WordMasters Challenge competition, the website is http://www.wordmasterschallenge.com/.  Students should be studying the word lists for both meets #1 and #2, because as the guidelines state, “Each successive meet will be somewhat more difficult than the preceding one. Meet #2 analogies will feature words from both of the first two Word Lists (50 words); Meet #3 analogies will be based on all three Word Lists (75 words).”
